Braidwood Granites Landscape Restoration Phase 3 2001 - |
| |
The Braidwood Granite basin comprises approximately 40 000 ha of extensively cleared grazing land of which less than 100 hectares remain as remnant bush. Landholder across the Braidwood granites have actively participated in a number of successful revegetation projects over the past 7 years. However, a significant proportion of the landscape sll requires revegetation.
Many of the landholders on the Braidwood Granites now have the experience, knowledge and motivation to successfully revegetate theis farming landscape, Theis project focuses in widespread, strategic reestablishment of native vegetation, resulting in the prevention of wind and water erosion, re-establishment of wildlife habitat and a transition to a sustainable farming landscape. |

Upper Shoalhaven and Upper Deua riparian restoration incentive program 2001 - |
| |
The protection of riparian areas within the upper Shoalhaven and upper Deua catchments has been identified as an important issue for improved water quality from the catchment along with reducing the effects of streambank erosion.
Landcare groups in the Upper Shoalhaven have been undertaking projects in riparian rehabilitation and restoration for a number of years. While the importance of protecting riparian areas has been recognised, problems associated with these activities, such as an increase in riparian weeds following stock exclusion have made some landholders reluctant to exclude stock from riparian areas.
This project proposes to establish an incentive scheme, offering up to $2,000 for each project, to encourage landholders to fence and protect riparian areas within the upper Shoalhaven and upper Deua River catchment and provide positive demonstrations of riparian restoration. |

Upper Shoalhaven Stream Degradation Survey 2001 - |
| |
Research in the Southern Tablelands suggests that possibly as much as 95% of sediments flowing from our catchment are generated from in-stream erosion.
This project proposes to address this problem in the Upper Shoalhaven River (above Tallowa Dam) and its main tributaries. The project will compile information on past streambank and gully erosion studies undertaken in the catchment, identify and assess in-stream erosion within the Upper Shoalhaven and major tributaries, develop a works and investment strategy to remediate these sites and increase landholders' and community awareness to the problem. |

Braidwood Granites landscape restoration Phase 2 2001 - |
| |
The Braidwood Granite basin comprises approximately 40 000 ha of extensively cleared grazing land of which less than 100 hectares remain as remnant bush. A number of successful revegetation projects have already been undertaken on the Braidwood Granites, however there is still an urgent need to re-establish native vegetation over a significant portion of the landscape. Many of the landholders on the Braidwood Granites now have the knowledge and motivation to successfully revegetate their farming landscape. This project focuses on widespread, strategic re-establishment of native vegetation, resulting in reduced potential for wind and water erosion, re-establishment of wildlife habitat and a transition to a sustainable farming landscape. |

Braidwood Granites landscape restoration project (Warri to Warrambucca) 1999 - 2001 |
| |
The Braidwood granite basin comprises approx. 40,000 hectares of extensively cleared grazing land of which less than 100 hectares remains as remnant bush. Much of this grazing country is underlain by aeolian derived soils which are highly
susceptible to wind erosion during dry times. The 1982.3 drought dramatically demonstrates this. As such, there is an urgent need to re-establish native vegetation over a significant portion of the Braidwood granites. Strategic revegetation, proposed in this project, will reduce the potential for wind and water erosion, re-establish interconnected wildlife corridors and help facilitate the transition to a sustainable farming landscape. |

Upper Shoalhaven Landcare Coordinator program - Part 2 1999 - 2002 |
| |
There are currently 15 Landcare Groups in the Upper Shoalhaven catchment. This program will recruit a Landcare Coordinator for a 2nd term of 3 years to assist in the continuing development of Landcare in the Upper Shoalhaven catchment. The Landcare Coordinator will assist groups with their sub-catchment planning, development of action plans, works programs and monitoring protocols and integrate these with broader natural resource management strategies. The program will continue to promote Landcare and sustainable NREM principles in the catchment, as well as promote the activities and aims of the groups to the broader community including stakeholders and potential sponsors. |

Development of a community water quality monitoring database 1999 - 2000 |
| |
Six Landcare Groups, Braidwood Central School and St Bedes Primary School wish to undertake or are currently undertaking water quality monitoring in the Upper Shoalhaven catchment. A rudimentary database has been developed by the Landcare Coordinator providing basic forms and input interface. In this project the database will be developed to allow remote access and data transfer via the internet as well as data querying. |

Developing a Community Access Decision Support Information System 1998 - 2000 |
| |
To build the capacity of the community to make informed environmental management decisions based on the available and current information and to develop the skills of the community in the use of contemporary environmental management tools and techniques. Three phases to be undertaken are 1. Develop a relational data base 2. Mapping of catchment 3. GIS development. The outcome is the establishment of a comprehensive, public assess decision support system for the Upper Shoalhaven catchment incorporating a relational data base facility, detailed catchment maps and Geographic Information System. |

Braidwood - Warri Revegetation Project (Extend a Knob) 1998 - 2001 |
| |
To extend upon and link vegetation from the successful "Trees on Rocky Knobs" project with a
mosaic pattern of revegetation within the view shed of the Kings Hwy, north west of Braidwood. Through direct seeding and tube stock planting, 14ha of farm land will be fenced off from stock and revegetated between the parish of Warri and the township of Braidwood. Outcome to provide protection from wind and water erosion on the fragile aeolian soils of the granite basin, provide a
habitat, re-establish a viable seed source for natural regeneration, demonstrate techniques for revegetation and demonstrate the benefits of native vegetation within a sustainable farming landscape. |

Direct Seeding Demonstration project 1996 - 1997 |
| |
Project aims to establish direct seeded demonstration sites at 3 locations; Reedy Creek, 6 Mile Flat and Gilberts Creek TSR. The project will provide opportunity for landholders to assess this technique of shelter belt establishment. The project will help landholders to make more informed decisions regarding tree establishment options. The project will involve the Landcare groups working with the RLPB and Greening Australia in the establishment of sites. Each site will be approx. 5 rows x 600m long. Project manager: Sam Storey of Greening Australia. |

Upper Shoalhaven Community Landcare Coordinator Program 1996 - 2000 |
| |
The program will recruit a Landcare Coordinator to facilitate the continued development of Landcare and coordinated land management programs within the Upper Shoalhaven Catchment Management Committee strategy. This program will facilitate the continued development and networking of existing groups and also assist new groups to form and recognise their priority land management and environmental issues. The coordinator will also assist groups to locate existing environmental data for inclusion within community owned sub-catchment and works plans and to also locate external bodies and sponsors willing to participate in the community process. |

Assessment of in Paddock Soil Acidity - Tallaganda Shire 1995 - 1997 |
| |
Soil acidity is a major issue in the Upper Shoalhaven. By involving landholders in the testing of their own soils for acidity, the project aims to raise awareness of acidity and establish a greater understanding of the nature of acidity in the catchment.
43 landholders submitted 204 samples. |
